Sponsored Cycle Event
Many thanks to Robert, one of our most supportive PG Scouts! Rob
completed the Richmond to Windsor Bike Event on Sunday 1st Sept, with his Mum. They
cycled a total of 49 miles and raised £36.50 between them for the Thailand Jamboree fund.

Summer
playscheme at Woodlands Park
Three of our Thailand Scouts helped entertain the children on the
playscheme. The Scouts ran an obstacle race and other team games !
All the children (including the Scouts)
had a fun time!

Summer Fair on the Green
A full year has passed since our fund raising began. We were given a
stall at the annual Pinkneys Green Summer Fair! T-Towels sold a bargain
price and we ran a soft toy tombola and a gorilla name game. Hope you
were able to join us, lots of fun and the weather was lovely!

Walking Treasure Hunt and Balloon Race
On Sunday 19th May the Thailand Fundraising Committee held a walking treasure hunt and balloon race in aid of the 20th World Scout Jamboree in Thailand 2002/3.
The walk started at Ockwells Park on a bright and sunny day. The walk took people around the Ockwells Park area looking for objects from reading the cryptic clues. When everyone had finished the treasure hunt we were all invited for a picnic at the Hadnutts house where we released approximately one hundred balloons, after we’d obtained permission from White Waltham airfield. The winning family had 25 points followed closely by the family in second place with 24 ½ points. Thanks go to everyone that came along and supported this event, the Hadnutts for allowing us to hold a picnic in their garden and Jill Burton for donating the Helium gas for the balloons.

If you missed our balloon race, you can still join in the fun - Pop the
balloons to make and
beat your own high score - highly addictive!

London Marathon 2002
Thank you for sponsoring Anushka Howell who ran the London Marathon on behalf of Pinkneys Green Scouts going to Thailand and Iceland.
Anushka told us that the crowds were amazing and towards the end kept shouting her name (carefully printed on her T shirt!) and encouragement which was definitely appreciated by 22 miles.
Anushka managed 4 hours and 30 minutes, which is what she’d hoped and predicted so
we were pleased about that. She had to walk a bit after 20 miles and a lot more after 24 miles but reserved some energy for running the last few 100m up the Mall, of course!
Anushka came in 19,588th in a field of ~33,000!! She says her legs are back to normal and can walk up and down the stairs now.

60s and 70s Disco
Thank you goes to Hawkeye and Akela for organising the Disco at Altwood Scout
Hall. Some of those strutting their stuff on the dance floor
included Cher, the Easy Rider, and many whose clothes still fitted them
from their youth! The evening was great fun with a disco and light show
provided by Jon C.
Saturday 23rd February 2002
Live Band/Disco
Another crazy evening! Very well
attended (with extra thanks to Tom Godfrey and his massive following of
fans). Not quite loud enough for some punters this time, but plenty loud
enough for the oldies ! The light show provided by Jon Corbitt, aided
by Pete Bristow, was fantastic. Snap Dragon and Mydriasis played
their hearts out. Many thanks to Boyne
Hill Altwood Scouts for the use of the hall, Niki Seeley,
Simon (especially for that job the rest of us avoided), all who
participated in the show and all the very well behaved young revelers. A
successful evening raised over £350 towards our fund raising.

Quiz Evening
After a Jamboree patrol meeting, Oliver, Phillip and myself went to Oliver's house to help Oliver's Dad prepare the curry.
The quiz evening was well attended with over 60 people there. My Dad had spent ages sorting out questions and he was the Quiz Master. I was on a table with scouts and we did quite well. Phillip was very clever he managed to get a motorcycling question right that other people had trouble with! Half way through a Thai curry was served by the Jamboree Scouts. Prizes were given at the end for the highest and lowest score. Everyone seemed to like the
raffle. We raised £261 (Report by Luke).

Christmas Trees
Our thanks to our PG Venture Unit who have sold and delivered Christmas
Trees this year and offered some of their collection money to us.
Sunday 2nd December 2001
PG Christmas Fair
With sparkling lights covering all the stands, we were put in the Christmas
mood. We were given a stall to sell our t-towels, quiz sheets and hand-made
Christmas Decorations. Along with a square board to win The Simpsons Chess
Set and a silent auction for some wonderful toys donated by Matel, we made
over £200.
December 2001
Wargrave Piggott Christmas Fair
Christmas carols and mulled wine really pulled in the crowds. We had a
stall with our hand-made Christmas Decorations, quiz sheets and toys. Many
people already new about the Jamboree but those that didn't certainly do
now! We received a lot of interest about our projects and collected over
£80.
Sunday Morning Furze Platt Boot Fair
(yes, it was very cold) Cups of steaming hot chocolate were very welcome.
Even though we couldn't feel the tips of our fingers and toes, we raised
nearly £70.
Car Wash
Note - due to circumstances beyond our control - the lack of this organisers
hose pipe! - we missed our car wash this month. We will be back in
February, fully hosed and ready to go! Our apologies to the Robin Hood Pub
and all our regular customers as well as those new people who turned up
(we'd like to have the chance to clean your cars!).
Sunday 18th November 2001
Table Top Sale at the Scout Hall
We rented out all the available tables and the sale was quite well
attended by local bargain hunters. We raised over £60.
Sunday 14th October 2001

JOTI and JOTA at Pinkneys Green
Scout Hall
Jamboree on the Internet and Jamboree on the Air
During this weekend, thousands of Scouts from all over the world met
and communicated with each other over the Internet, using any
technologies locally available, from web browsers to e-mail, chat
programs, microphones, scanners and digital cameras. Pinkneys Green Scout
Group combined this event with the Jamboree
On The Air (JOTA), where Scouts communicated with each other
over radio amateur frequencies with the assistance of our local radio
amateur crew. You could see our radio masts across the National Trust
Land. It was a busy, fun weekend. We were there with a tuck
shop, our T-Towels and Quiz sheets. We raised nearly £70.

Car Wash - lunch times at the Robin
Hood Pub
Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October 2001
Thanks to Scouts Robert Gledhill and Craig Mitchell who helped us
during our October Car Wash. People are dropping by every month
saying we're doing a good job (and even paying us)! Also thanks to the Landlord and his wife for inviting us to
run this monthly event, and for supplying the wax shampoo
and water jets.
Saturday
1st and Sunday 2nd September 2001
A lovely sunny weekend spent relaxing in the attractive pub
garden with a long cold drink - whilst watching the boys
working ! Many thanks to Scouts -
Tom and Richard Bennett, Tom and Josh Byrne, Alex Jones, James Kirk, Paul
McCormack, Jon Sayer and Venture Jon Corbitt who joined us.
This monthly event is becoming well known. We raised £107 !
Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th August 2001
We certainly did work hard - the endless stream of cars (and rather
large dirty vans) kept us busy. Many thanks to Akela,
Adam Baker and Scouts - Robert Gledhill, David King, Jon Tagg, Grant and
Miles Willett who joined us and rubbed and scrubbed tirelessly
- their hands were very wrinkly at the end.
We raised £160 and made many new friends !
Sunday 24th June 2001
Summer Fair
The annual Pinkneys Green Scout Group event. We set up a Soft Toys
Tombola stall with a Name the Teddy to
Win
the Teddy competition. Many thanks to Mattel
for donating 3 large boxes of toys. A glorious sunny day and we were
lucky enough to be placed near the Band. Along with a glass (or
two) of Pimms, we had a very enjoyable day. We also raised £461.00
Friday 15th and Saturday 16th June
2001
